FORT SCOTT, Kan. — A razor-thin Republican race in District 1 highlighted Tuesday's Bourbon County Commission primary, with Mike Hueston holding a three-vote lead over Lyle "Pete" Owenby in unofficial results.
The winner will not be official until county election officials count provisional ballots during the canvass Aug. 17. The nominee will face Democrat Clinton L. Walker in the November general election.
The number of outstanding provisional ballots was not available Tuesday night. County Clerk Susan Walker said the count would be released Wednesday.
Hueston received 163 votes (42.7%) to Owenby's 160 votes (41.9%). Lisa Dillon received 59 votes (15.4%). Walker ran unopposed on the Democratic ticket with 88 votes.
In District 3, Republican Joe Allen defeated Joshua Jones 307 votes (65.6%) to 161 votes (34.4%). Six write-in votes were recorded in the District 3 Democratic primary.
Republican Gregg Motley ran unopposed in the District 4 Republican primary with 427 votes. The Democratic primary for District 4 recorded 12 write-in votes.
