Hope Outreach of Fort Scott didn’t ask Bourbon County for money Monday. The new group, which works to connect homeless residents with housing and services, asked commissioners for time instead, and Commissioner Joe Allen volunteered to serve as its liaison.

Hope Outreach of Fort Scott asks county for liaison, not funding

A Fort Scott group working to help homeless residents find housing asked the Bourbon County Commission on Monday for something other than money. Joan Brown, representing Hope Outreach of Fort Scott, asked commissioners to appoint a liaison who would meet with the group’s board about once a quarter.

“What we would like from the county is not money at all,” Brown said. “It is something that is much more precious. We would like time.”
