FORT SCOTT —People interested in working at AmericanMaid’s new Fort Scott plant can pick up applications at 4505 Campbell Drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. starting Nov. 10-12, incoming plant manager Steve Mason told the Monitor Thursday evening.
Mason, a former Timken employee, said he expects to have applications ready early next week. He said the plant will begin operations gradually through December and January “and hopefully take off from there.”
Those who want to be contacted can also text their name and phone number to Mason at 620-215-0676, he told the Monitor. Mason asked people to text rather than call because the plant does not yet have phone service.
Mary Wyatt, the city’s director of business development, said during the Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce coffee Thursday that the city is directing hiring inquiries to Mason.
Wyatt said the city has not yet verified public contact information for the company’s owner, whom she expects is overwhelmed with preparations for the transition.
“We’ve gotten a lot of feedback, a lot of questions about applications and how to contact the owner,” Wyatt said.
Wyatt cautioned that applicants might not receive an immediate response because Mason still has a process to work through.
She also said the company completed its purchase of the former Timken building Friday.
“We are very excited and really hoping to make a dent in the unemployment rate in Bourbon County,” Wyatt said.
The company expects to hire about 100 people in its first year, city officials said Tuesday.
