Railroad permit denial changes Wall Street plan; city manager questions project cost

Fort Scott - A railroad permit denial will leave the section of Wall Street at the railroad crossing out of the planned full-depth rebuild of the U.S. Highway 54 corridor, City Engineer Jason Dickman told the Fort Scott City Commission on Nov. 3. The update led City Manager Brad Matkin to ask commissioners to consider a lower-cost approach to the project.

Dickman said the city received two of the three railroad permits it needed, for the Davis Lift Station and East National Avenue. He said the railroad denied the permit for U.S. 54 because the road's changed geometry would require a separate project to move crossing equipment.
