Hueston wins District 1 primary by five votes after canvass

Mike Hueston defeated Lyle “Pete” Owenby by five votes in the District 1 Republican primary following Monday’s official canvass. Owenby has until 5 p.m. Tuesday to request a recount.

Mike Hueston edged Lyle K. “Pete” Owenby by five votes in the Republican primary for Bourbon County Commission District 1 after Monday’s official canvass.

Hueston finished with 165 votes to Owenby’s 160. Lisa Dillon received 60 votes.

In District 3, incumbent Joe Allen defeated Joshua Jones 308-161, taking 65.7% of the Republican primary vote.

District 4 Commissioner Gregg Motley, who was unopposed in the Republican primary, received 432 votes.

Under K.S.A. 25-3107, Owenby may request a recount. Any request must be filed with the county election officer by 5 p.m. Tuesday and requires a bond sufficient to cover the county’s recount costs.
