FORT SCOTT — City commissioners and members of Fort Scott's historic preservation board spent nearly an hour Tuesday working through what the city's Certified Local Government, or CLG, ordinance actually requires. The work session was held before the commission's regular meeting, with several downtown business owners in attendance.
Mayor Kathryn Salsbury opened by telling commissioners the standards governing downtown building changes have not changed in decades.
"We have had the same standards and guidelines for what affects our historic district since 1976, half a century," she said.
"We didn't introduce any new guidelines. We didn't come up with any new hoops to jump through," Salsbury said.
