Fort Scott commissioners split on levy vote, but 2027 budget passes unanimously

FORT SCOTT - City commissioners voted 3-2 Tuesday, Sept. 15, to exceed Fort Scott's revenue neutral rate, then adopted the 2027 budget by a unanimous vote minutes later.

The resolution, No. 40-2026, read aloud by Commissioner Tim Van Hoecke, states the Bourbon County clerk calculated the city's revenue neutral rate at 41.472 mills. The proposed budget carries a levy of 41.886 mills, exceeding that rate by less than half a mill.
