Former Fort Scott City Commissioner Pete Allen outlines his plan to rebuild the city’s water, sewer and street systems one ward at a time, starting with seven blocks of Crawford Street, at the Fort Scott City Commission meeting Tuesday, Oct. 20.
Former Fort Scott City Commissioner Pete Allen (January 2020-March 2022) presented a plan Tuesday to rebuild the city's water, sewer and street systems one ward at a time, starting with seven blocks of Crawford Street. Several residents who followed him asked commissioners to preserve the city's brick streets.
Commissioners agreed to hold a work session on the plan Nov. 17.
Allen told commissioners the city has recorded 597 water leaks over the past seven years, including 27 in the first six months of this year. He said 170 of the pipes repaired during those leaks were rated poor.
"Our water lines are a hundred plus years old, cast iron pipes that were designed for 50 years," Allen said.
