The Bourbon County Commission voted 4-0 Wednesday evening to hire Apex Environmental to inspect the courthouse for asbestos, two days after the same issue deadlocked the commission 2-2. Commissioner David Beerbower will coordinate the inspection and related work, with spending capped at $5,000.
Beerbower requested the special meeting, saying research he conducted after Monday's meeting showed the Environmental Protection Agency requires an asbestos inspection before renovation or demolition work, including the county's planned elevator modernization.
The inspection could delay that project and force a larger move of district court operations across the street.
“So before we can even begin with this, we need to have these inspections done,” Beerbower said.
