The Fort Scott City Commission deadlocked 2-2 on Nov. 3 on buying a new Vactor 2100i combination sewer cleaner truck for $558,564.47. Commissioners then voted to table the purchase until their Nov. 17 meeting, when all five members can vote.
Bill Lemke of the city's utilities staff told commissioners the city's only combination truck is a 2007 model that is shared by water distribution, wastewater collections and stormwater crews. He said a second truck would let crews work on several projects in different parts of the city on the same day.
"Something's always not quite getting done," Lemke said.
